WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • A computer and/or smartphone.
  • Printer & scanner (optional).
  • An email address.
  • A PDF reader.
  • A device to record a video on.
  • A fire extinguisher.
  • A safe place to make a small fire.

HOW IT WORKS

You will receive your material via email. You have three weeks from your enrolment date to go through your learner guide and complete your portfolio of evidence (POE). You will need to email your POE and a video of you using a fire extinguisher to us. Once your POE has been assessed and you’ve been found competent your certificate will be issued. You can email us during office hours for support.

COURSE INTRODUCTION

Fire is a powerful force that, when not properly controlled, can pose a significant threat to life, property, and the environment. The ability to respond effectively to fires is a critical skill for individuals in various settings, including workplaces, homes, and public spaces. The Basic Fire Fighting course is designed to provide participants with the fundamental knowledge and skills required to understand, prevent, and manage fire-related emergencies.

In this course, you will learn how to confidently handle a hand-held fire extinguisher. You will learn about the basic principles of fire behavior, fire prevention, and the safe use of firefighting equipment. We will guide you through the essential steps of assessing a fire scene, evacuating occupants, and using firefighting tools such as fire extinguishers.

Completing the Basic Fire Fighting course will empower you to protect yourself and others from fire-related hazards. Whether you’re a concerned homeowner, a responsible employee, or simply looking to enhance your fire safety awareness, this course is your first step towards becoming a capable fire responder. Together, we’ll work to ensure that you’re prepared to handle fire emergencies and contribute to safer environments for everyone.

  • Nature of fire.
  • Identifying risks in the workplace.
  • Fire classification.
  • Methods of fire transmission.
  • Firefighting and safety equipment.
  • Firefighting procedures and techniques; including evacuation.
  • Fire prevention.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Read, write, & understand English.

ASSESSMENT

  • Classroom assignments.
  • Practical demonstration – use of a hand-held fire extinguisher.
  • If found ‘not yet competent’, an attendance certificate will be issued.

AWARD

  • First Aid Training SA Certificate.
  • Digital certificates only.
  • Valid for 2 years.
  • Certificates will be issued within 10 working days from successful completion of training.
